What Do We Do?

Due to Covid-19, the CK8 PTA will be limited in the amount and types of programming we offer during the 2020/2021 school year. Here are the school-related activities/events that were organized last year by the CK8 PTA in support of its initiatives. We hope to be able to resume many of these activities once it is safe to do so.

Fun Run or Fun Run DanceFit Challenge – Our large fundraiser for the year supports most of our goals as a PTA as outlined in our yearly budget. Students secure donations or pledges per lap/fitness activity from friends, family, and community members through an online Boosterthon portal. The Fun Run or DanceFit Challenge is a two week event which kicks off with a high spirited Pep Rally for all students and culminates on the event day. Throughout the two weeks, students earn CK8 logo prizes for reaching various pledge levels and are given individual and class challenges to meet certain goals as we work toward our school goal. Last year was an amazing success and raised $43,000 for our school.

Character Recognition – Last year, the PTA recognized students from each class once a month during their lunch time for exhibiting good character. Students were honored in front of their peers for being honest, kind, determined, joyful, humble, as well as other character traits. Chickfila sponsored this event and provided a free lunch to the students recognized.

Pride Store – Each year, the PTA designs and sells t-shirts with CK8 themes/logos. These shirts can be worn by students on all Fridays throughout the school year. The Pride Store also offers other CK8 logo items and operates at various times/events throughout the school year (open house, honor roll assemblies, various Food Truck Fridays, etc.). To order a pride shirt this year, send an email to ck8pridestore@gmail.com.

Back to School Used Uniform Sale — Held toward the end of Summer vacation, the PTA sells gently-used or like-new uniform items (adhering to the school dress code) which have been donated by parents throughout the year. As a service to our parents and students, each item is offered for just $1.

Talent Show – Our talent show is a showcase of all the amazing talent we have at CK8. This is a yearly event held at the CHS auditorium. Students audition and rehearse both group and individual acts and perform for friends, family, and community members at this evening event!

Run With the Pride 5K – Another yearly PTA event, the Run with the Pride 5K is held the Saturday prior to the Celebration Half Marathon each year. It is organized and run as a traditional 5K with proceeds going to the PTA in support of its goals.

Yearbook – The CK8 Yearbook is the result of a year-long effort to capture the students, teachers, staff, events, and activities that make our school so terrific! Pictures are captured and organized throughout the year and sales of the yearbooks begin in the Spring and distributed the last week of school.

Box Tops Program – Box tops have gone digital! You can download the BoxTops app and scan your grocery receipts to help raise money for our school.  PTA offers contests to encourage the collection of box tops. For more information regarding this program, check out www.boxtops4education.com .

Dress Down Days – Throughout the school year, the PTA offers a $1 donation dress down day for all students. Any student wishing to participate brings $1 to school and gives it to their first period teacher to help support the PTA. Dress code still applies and participation is voluntary.

Chick-fil-A Pumpkin Spirit Night – This is an extremely popular annual event. Chick-fil-A purchases pumpkins on our behalf and delivers them to the school, so classes can decorate them in some type of literary theme. The pumpkins are then transported to Chick-fil-A to be displayed for all to see and vote for their favorite! Prizes are awarded by the PTA for the winners.

Honor Roll Assemblies – The honor roll is a distinction given to 3rd-8th grade students for receiving either all A’s or all A’s & B’s throughout each individual marking period. The PTA is proud to provide all honor roll students with a token of achievement during the school’s quarterly honor roll ceremonies.

Walk/Bike to School Days – This event is scheduled in the fall and spring at a national level, and are an opportunity for the PTA to encourage students to be active and stay fit. PTA volunteers welcome students to the school and reward those who have biked or walked to school with giveaways and raffle prizes.

Year End Celebrations – Students deserve a break for all their hard work throughout the school year! The PTA hosts a year-end celebration for both elementary and middle school students at some point during the last few weeks of school.
